Here at GB Ultra Runner, it's no secret that we are massive Courtney Dauwalter fans. So, when SunGod reached out and asked if we’d like to test out their new Classics4 PRO sunglasses, we just couldn’t say no.

Thankfully, the UK has been subjected to a number of heatwaves recently, giving us plenty of opportunities to test them properly, both during sweaty runs and just going about everyday life. After putting in the miles, here's our honest verdict.

Classics4 PRO Style

If you follow the sport, you’ll know that Courtney has bucked the trend of wearing aggressive, sporty performance models, championing the casual look of SunGod's Everyday range for years.

The new SunGod Classics4 PRO is the latest iteration of the popular Classics4 model, tweaked in collaboration with Courtney to better suit the demands of an ultra marathon. The idea is simple: add a noticeable performance uplift to an everyday look, bridging the gap between casual wear and testing trails.

I know visor-style sunnies, like the SunGod Ultras, are becoming increasingly popular out on the trails, but I’ve never been a big fan. I’ve always opted for a traditional, relaxed style of sunglasses, whether they’re from SunGod or any other brand. So, seeing them incorporate actual performance features into this casual shape is a definite win for me.

Courtney Dauwalter ‘Pain Cave’ Design

Alongside the standard 5 colours, there is an exclusive Limited Edition Signature colourway. The design is inspired by Courtney's mental fortitude, specifically the "pain cave" she finds comfort in. It’s meant to represent that dark place where she thrives during racing’s toughest moments, when the cracks start to appear, signalling what’s on the other side.

The frame features a golden cracked design to embody this, paired with matching gold lenses.

SunGod Glasses Fit and Performance

Having a casual look is great, but they need to actually stay on your face when you run. With some of my other lifestyle-shaped glasses, there is usually a little bounce whilst running. However, I didn’t experience any bouncing with the Classics4 PROs, they stayed firmly in place, which is brilliant.

This stability comes down to a few practical updates:

• Remodelled Arm Fins: They feature new straight arm fins that provide a wrap-and-hold feel similar to SunGod’s Pace range, giving a tighter and more secure fit.
• Grip-Lock™ Pads: The nose pads are made from a hydrophilic rubber that supposedly grips better as you sweat, stopping them from slipping down your nose.
• Featherweight Build: At just 26g, they are genuinely light enough to forget you are wearing them.

Optically, the 8KO® Nylon Lenses do exactly what you need them to do. The clarity is sharp, they handle changing light well, and they offer 100% UVA and UVB protection. If you are sensitive to glare, there is a polarisation option available, and the frames are compatible with interchangeable lenses if you want to switch things up.

Packaging and Sustainability

SunGod does a good job with the no nonsense unboxing experience. They arrive in a slick, minimal cardboard box, no bulky or wasteful plastic to throw away which is great.

Inside, you get a microfibre cloth pouch to keep the glasses scratch-free, which also acts as your cleaning cloth. It’s made from recycled plastic bottles, which is a nice touch. Furthermore, the frames are built using SunGod’s Infinite™ Recycled plastic, which apparently boasts a 7x lower carbon footprint than virgin plastic.

The SunGod Lifetime Guarantee

A big selling point for SunGod is their Free Lifetime Guarantee. If your frames break, they will repair them free of charge. Forever!

However, it is worth managing expectations and reading the fine print. The guarantee is brilliant for accidental frame breakages and manufacturer defects, but it does not cover:

• Lens scratches
• General wear and tear from standard use
• Loss or theft

So, while the frames are covered for life, you still need to look after your lenses!

Final Thoughts & Pricing

Ultimately, the Classics4 PRO manages to handle the rigours of the trail while keeping the casual, iconic look Courtney has championed. They do exactly what they promise: provide a stable, comfortable run without making you look like you're about to cycle in the Tour de France.

After putting them through their paces over the last few weeks, we are firmly on board. We're big fans of the crossover appeal, and they have officially taken the top spot as our go-to sunglasses for the foreseeable future, whether we're racking up ultra miles or just heading to the pub.
