Veloforte Energy Nutrition Review
Veloforte Energy Nutrition For Ultra Runners
Finding fuel that sits well in the stomach at mile 40 is the holy grail of ultra running. Recently, I was sent a batch of Veloforte energy gels and bars to test out and review, so I took them out on a few long runs to see if they live up to the hype.
Here’s my honest take on whether these "natural nectars" and bars deserve a spot in your running vest.
Veloforte Energy Gels Review

The Good Stuff
First off, I was blown away by the size. The packets are roughly 30g (33g to be precise), which is tiny compared to a standard SiS gel that usually weighs in at 60g. Despite being half the weight, they still contain the same amount of carbohydrates (22g).
This is super handy because they are much easier to consume quickly, but the biggest advantage for me is that they take up half the space in your running vest, which is brilliant. They truly are pocket-sized; you can stuff a handful into a front pocket without looking like a hamster.
Another massive plus is the ingredients list. They contain all-natural ingredients, real fruit juices, maple syrup, and pink Himalayan salt, which means they are really friendly on your gut. They are also vegan, which is great if that’s your dietary requirement.
The texture is a win, too. It’s not too runny, but not too thick or sticky either. It sits somewhere in the middle.
The flavours are all pretty decent. They taste "natural" and almost like fruit juice rather than chemicals. My favourite flavour was definitely the Tempo (Date, Lemon & Ginger). I’ll admit, at first I was taken aback as the flavours are quite strong and concentrated, but I eventually got used to them and found them really pleasant, especially when you’re craving something that doesn't taste synthetic.
The Downsides
It’s not all perfect, though. The carb content is only 22g, which is really your standard minimum for an energy gel these days. For ultra marathons, I like to aim for a gel with a 30g minimum to keep the energy levels high without having to eat constantly. If Veloforte could increase the carb content in these tiny packs, that would be a game-changer.
The next downside is the price. You can pick up a pack of 5 mixed gels for £11.45, which works out at £2.29 per gel. While they are on the dearer side for a 22g carb gel, Veloforte have provided GBUR with a special discount code to help out. If you'd like to give them a go, use code GBAV20 at checkout for 20% off, which brings the cost down to a much more competitive price point.
Veloforte Energy Gel Verdict
Overall, I thought they were good. I have no complaints about the texture, and the range of flavours is very unique, which is a nice change from the usual berry or orange gloop. The best thing, though, is the size of these things, I absolutely love how small they are!
Veloforte Energy Bars Review

The Good Stuff
Moving on to the solid food. The energy bars were okay; they tasted good and felt like "real food," which is always nice on a long day out. I had no issues with the stomach, which is the most important test passed.
Again, the physical size is good, not overly large or bulky. They pack a decent punch nutritionally, offering between 33g and 36g of carbs depending on the flavour, which is a solid amount of fuel for a bar of this size.
The Downsides
My only real snag with them is the texture. They were a little dense. It took longer than I liked to get through one because I was really having to chew, which isn’t ideal when you are running and trying to breathe. They might be better suited for hiking sections or pre-run fuelling rather than mid-run efforts.
Like the gels, the bars are quite expensive. A mixed pack of 7 is £18.69, which is £2.67 per bar. When you take into account the amount of fuel and carbs you get through on an ultra, the price starts to add up. However, that 20% discount code (GBAV20) works on these too, which definitely takes the sting out of the tail when stocking up.
Final Thoughts
Veloforte is definitely a premium option for runners who care about natural ingredients and gut health. If space in your pack is your number one priority, the gels are an absolute winner. If you’re on a tight budget or need high-carb efficiency, you might find yourself needing to eat quite a few of them to hit your numbers.
If you do want to try them out for your next race or training block, use the code GBAV20 for 20% off. It makes testing them out much lighter on the wallet!
