BC50K Trail Ultramarathon

Step into the heart of the Shropshire Hills for a breathtaking 50km ultramarathon. Organised by Running Monk Trail Events, the BC50K Trail Ultra showcases the absolute best of Bishop's Castle and the surrounding countryside, combining deep history with spectacular, lung-busting trails.

This stunning 50km route is a true love letter to the Shropshire landscape. With roughly 1,524m (5,000 feet) of elevation gain, it offers a brilliant challenge for both seasoned ultra runners looking for a scenic day out and confident marathoners stepping up to the ultra distance.

Course

Starting from the historic market town of Bishop's Castle, the route immediately plunges you into a varied mix of tranquil back roads, lush forests, vibrant meadows, and technical single-track trails.

The course has been carefully designed to incorporate some of the region's most iconic and spectacular paths. You will find yourself running along sections of the Shropshire Way, the ancient earthworks of Offa's Dyke path, and the historic Kerry Ridgeway. Expect to tackle remote off-grid footpaths, cross open fields, and be rewarded with some of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the county.

Navigation and Aid Stations

While Running Monk Trail Events will place some of their signature pink signs out on the course, this event is primarily self-navigated. It is absolutely crucial that all runners download the provided GPX file and save it to their GPS watch or mobile phone to navigate the rural paths successfully.

To keep your energy levels topped up, you will be supported by three fully stocked aid stations strategically located at miles 9, 15, and 24. Expect a spread of sweet and savoury snacks, alongside water and flat Coke to keep you energised and moving strongly toward the finish line.

No Cut-Off Times

True to the welcoming, grassroots spirit of Running Monk Trail Events, there is no cut-off time for the BC50K Ultra. Whether you are racing for a podium finish or taking your time to hike the steep climbs and enjoy the views, the pressure of the clock is completely removed. If you participate and are ready to persevere until the end, the Running Monk team will be waiting with your finisher's medal and a warm hug as you cross the finish line.
