Lakeland Trails 55K Ultra Marathon

The Lakeland Trails 55K Ultra offers a challenging yet achievable ultra marathon experience, set against the dramatic mountain scenery of the Lake District National Park. This 55km (approximately 34.2-mile) single-loop course provides a significant test of trail running ability within its 12 hours cut-off for the Race or 13 hour cut-off for the Challenge.

Course

The 55KM ultra starts and finishes in Ambleside, embarking on a continuous loop that explores a substantial portion of the Lake District's varied terrain. The course is characterised by its inclusion of three significant mountain passes, which contribute to its considerable elevation profile. Participants will traverse a range of trail surfaces, from established paths to more rugged sections through valleys and fells.

The route is fully waymarked and supported by marshals, with GPX files available to assist with navigation. This makes it accessible for runners to concentrate on the demanding landscape. The course is designed to provide a comprehensive taste of Lakeland's challenging trails and stunning vistas, balancing runnable sections with notable climbs.
