Maverick Kielder Forest 52km Ultra Marathon
Journey through a century of history in England's largest forest. The Maverick Kielder Forest 50K Ultra offers a unique trail running experience, guiding you through the vast, stunning, and wild landscapes of Northumberland on some of the finest gravel trails in the country.
This 50k ultramarathon is a true celebration of Kielder Forest, a location renowned for its dark skies, towering trees and serene reservoir. Starting and finishing at the iconic Kielder Castle, this is your chance to conquer a truly epic course in a uniquely beautiful setting.
Course
The 52 kilometre ultra route is the crown jewel of the event, designed to showcase the very best of Kielder's trails. The course is a fantastic mix of fast, runnable forest tracks and steady, rewarding inclines that take you to stunning viewpoints overlooking this immense landscape.
With a significant 1,409m (4,622ft) of elevation gain, the route is a proper test of endurance. You'll need to manage your effort on the long climbs while being ready to take advantage of the flowing gravel descents. It’s a classic trail ultra that combines rewarding running with spectacular scenery.
Maverick Race is known for its incredible atmosphere and superbly organised, plastic-free events. This race is no exception. It’s perfect for runners looking to step up to their first 50k, as well as for experienced ultrarunners seeking a fast and beautiful course.
With well-stocked aid stations (or 'outposts'), a fantastic finisher's medal, and free parking, the logistics are all taken care of so you can focus on the challenge.
