Welcome to a true woodland battle. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Gisburn Forest, the Among the Pines Backyard Ultra by Moar Events is a spectacular Last One Standing race. Limited to an exclusive field of just 200 runners, this event takes you deep into the heart of Lancashire's Gisburn Forest for a relentless, fully off-road test of endurance.

Whether you are aiming to push beyond your longest distance, complete your first-ever backyard lap, or battle through the darkness to chase the sunrise, this race offers a phenomenal atmosphere where personal challenge meets fierce competition.

Backyard Ultra Format

If you're not familiar with the backyard ultra format they're devilishly simple.

• The Distance: 4.167 miles (6.706 km ) per loop.
• The Clock: You must complete the loop within one hour.
• The Restart: The bell rings on the hour, every hour. If you are in the corral, you continue. If you aren't, you are a DNF.
• The Winner: The race continues until only one runner remains to complete a solo lap. Everyone else receives a "Did Not Finish."

Course

The course provides a beautifully runnable mix of smooth forest fire roads and shaded, pine-lined singletrack. Because Gisburn Forest is a Forestry England site open to the public, you are completely free to visit and recce the route ahead of race day. Taking the time to familiarise yourself with the flowing terrain during the daytime will give you a massive tactical advantage.

This advantage becomes crucial as the race progresses. Because of the late October date, the forest will be plunged into darkness by Lap 6. This brilliant timing guarantees that almost the entire starting field gets to experience the thrill of night-time trail running. Navigating the towering conifers with only the beam of your headtorch makes the night laps incredibly atmospheric and wonderfully spooky, adding a whole new psychological element as the shadows close in around you.

The Backyard Ultra format strips away the finish line and forces you to confront your own limits. Doing so beneath the towering trees of Gisburn Forest elevates the experience entirely.
