Beecraigs Backyard Ultra in Scotland

The Beecraigs Backyard Ultra is a continuous, multi-lap endurance race nestled within Beecraigs Country Park near Linlithgow, Scotland. This race follows the classic "Backyard Ultra" format where participants must complete a 4.167 mile (roughly 6.7 km) loop every hour, on the hour until there is only one person left standing.

Course

The 4.167-mile loop is entirely contained within the varied landscape of Beecraigs Country Park. The route guides runners through serene forests, alongside the tranquil Beecraigs Loch and across undulating woodland tracks. The terrain is a mix of forest trails and gravel paths, providing a runnable surface that still offers a consistent physical test with its steady elevation gain of 150m on each circuit.

The April timing brings the potential for crisp spring conditions, with trails winding through areas known for local wildlife. Participants will experience the beauty of West Lothian's natural environment, transitioning from daylight loops to the darker hours should the race extend through the night. The cumulative effect of the repeated climbs and descents provides a true test of endurance and pacing.

Basic provisions are accessible at a self-service table within the HQ. This includes cold beverages such as water and squash, alongside fruit and basic snacks. Hot drinks like tea and coffee are also provided (runners are encouraged to bring their own mug). Participants are advised to bring their own primary food and additional fuel for sustained running over many hours.
