Highlander Last One Standing, Backyard Ultra

This is the Highlander Last One Standing, a backyard ultra that strips running back to its purest form: one loop, on the hour, every hour. Set against the magnificent backdrop of the Murthly Castle Estate in Perthshire, this isn't just an ultramarathon, it's a battle of endurance and sheer willpower.

Mark your calendars, the race begins at 12 noon, and it only ends when just one runner is left!

Backyard Ultra Format

If you're new to the whacky world of backyard ultras, the rules are beautifully simple but brutally effective:

The Loop: A 4.167-mile (6.7km) course.

The Bell: Every hour, on the hour, the bell rings, and you start a new loop.

The Rule: You must complete the loop and be back in the starting corral before the bell rings again. No-one can start early, and if you're late, you're out.

This continues, hour after hour, through the day, into the night, and for as long as it takes. The race isn't about being the fastest. It's about managing your pace, sorting your admin, and having the grit to answer that bell just one more time.

The last runner to complete a solo loop is crowned the winner. Everyone else receives a "Did Not Finish" (DNF) medal, which you'll earn with absolute pride.

Course

The 4.167 mile loop runs through the stunning grounds of the Murthly Castle Estate. It's not perfectly flat you'll take on around 121m (400ft) of elevation each time, but the course is absolutely runnable and designed to be completed well within the one-hour cut-off.

This is a Silver Ticket Event, meaning the winner gains a spot on the UK Team for the Backyard Ultra World Team Championship. The pressure is on!

At the start/finish area, you are encouraged to set up your own support station. Bring a gazebo, your kit boxes and your support crew to look after you in the precious minutes between loops. This is where the race is won and lost.

While everyone gets a race top and a DNF medal, there's a special prize for those who dig deep. Any runner who completes 24 hours, racking up an incredible 100.8 miles, will receive a coveted Rocket Events 100 mile medal. The last male and female standing will, of course, be taking home a trophy.
