Have you ever wondered how long you could keep going? The backyard ultra format is the ultimate test of endurance, a battle of wills where pace-setters burn out and the steady tortoise truly can beat the hare. And what better place to find your limit than on the stunning, rugged Isle of Man?

The Isle of Man Backyard Ultra takes place in the Archalligan Plantation. This location provides a dramatic and challenging backdrop for this test of grit. 

You'll be sharing the journey with a limited field of 200 fellow runners, creating an incredible atmosphere of camaraderie and shared determination. The race is an exercise in pacing, nutrition and pure stubbornness. It's about managing your breaks, sorting your kit in the precious minutes between loops and answering the bell time and time again.

How Does A Backyard Ultra Work?

If you're new to the format, welcome to your new obsession. Organised to the official "Big's" backyard rules, the concept is beautifully simple:

• The Yard: A 4.167 mile (6.7km) loop, or 'yard'.
• The Bell: Every hour, on the hour, the starting bell rings, and you head out to complete the loop.
• The Rule: You must be back in the starting corral before the bell rings again for the next hour. If you're not, you're out.

There are no prizes for being the fastest. Whether you finish your lap in 40 minutes or 59, everyone starts together on the next hour. This continues through the day, into the night and beyond. The race only ends when there is just one runner left, the sole finisher.

Everyone else is a "Did Not Finish" (DNF), and you'll earn it with pride.
