Medieval Backyard Ultra Marathon Wales

The Medieval Backyard Ultra presents a truly unique test of endurance, set against the evocative backdrop of the Medieval Village at Cosmeston Lakes in Wales. Following the traditional Backyard Ultra format, runners must complete a 4.167 mile (6.7 km) loop every hour, on the hour. The race continues without pause, only ending when one runner remains to complete a final solo lap, having outlasted all other competitors.

Course 

The 4.167 mile loop is a mixed-terrain course entirely within the grounds of the Medieval Village at Cosmeston Lakes. The route is defined by its very runnable nature, with a fairly flat profile and only minor elevation changes on each lap. This makes it an ideal course for those aiming to accumulate significant mileage in a backyard ultra format.

The course itself consists of compact gravel trails, woodland paths, managed pathways and some sections of tarmac road. This variety ensures an engaging experience while the minimal elevation allows for a consistent pace. 

The race HQ is equipped with plumbed toilets, charging points for devices and with free camping spaces available. The are also hot and cold water, along with snacks for runners. However, it is recommended you bring your own primary food and drink supplies.
