Putney Loop Backyard Ultra London

The Putney Loop is a unique backyard ultra set right in the heart of London, using the iconic River Thames as its backdrop. This is a gritty, urban take on the "last one standing" format, offering a low-key, community-focused atmosphere.

What sets this event apart is its not-for-profit ethos. It's an accessible race, often with low entry fees, and all proceeds are dedicated to supporting the Glass Door Homeless Charity.

Last One Standing BYU

The event follows the classic, relentless backyard ultra rules:

  • One 4.167-Mile Yard: Runners must complete the 6.7km (4.167-mile) loop every hour, on the hour.
  • The Bell: You must be back in the starting corral before the bell sounds for the next loop, or your race is over.
  • The Winner: The race continues, hour after hour, until only one runner is left to complete a final "yard" on their own. Everyone else is a DNF.

Course

The race HQ is based on Putney Embankment, starting near St Mary's Church. The course itself is a loop that pounds the pavements and towpaths along the River Thames.

Runners will pass famous West London landmarks, including Putney Bridge, Hammersmith Bridge and Fulham FC's Craven Cottage. Be aware that the exact course can vary, as the organisers use different routes depending on the river's tide times to ensure the path is safe and runnable. Like many backyard ultras, the event switches to a dedicated night loop after dark.

This is a fantastic opportunity to test your endurance, soak in the sights of the capital, and be part of an event with a real community focus, all while running for a great cause. For full details, including registration, please visit the official race website.
