This is the pinnacle of UK mountain ultrarunning. The 13 Valleys Ultra is a monumental 184km (114 mile) journey through the heart of the Lake District National Park, a challenge that stands as one of the most demanding and spectacular 100 mile ultramarathons in Europe.
As the flagship event of the weekend, the 13 Valleys Ultra is a true test of endurance, resilience and mountain craft. It is a complete, uninterrupted loop of all 13 valleys, designed not just as a race, but as a grand tour of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
From the moment you start, you are embarking on an adventure of epic proportions. The 184km (114 mile) route encompasses over 7,000m of elevation gain, crossing iconic mountain passes, descending into serene, glacially-carved valleys, and traversing the legendary terrain that has captivated fell runners for generations.
You will run through multiple nights, navigating technical, unforgiving trails under headtorch. You will face mist-shrouded peaks, sweeping ridges, and steep, rocky descents. This course is designed to test every facet of your ability as an athlete, from your physical conditioning to your mental fortitude and self-sufficiency in a remote mountain environment.
Entry into the 13 Valleys Ultra should not be taken lightly. This is a postgraduate-level challenge, strictly for experienced mountain ultra runners. Participants must be confident and self-sufficient in mountainous terrain, possess excellent navigation skills, and have proven experience in 100 mile ultramarathons with significant elevation. The Lakeland fells are beautiful but demand respect, and this course requires you to be prepared for all conditions!
