Jurassic Extinction 105 Mile Ultra Marathon

They do not call it "Extinction" for nothing. The Jurassic Extinction 105 Mile Ultramarathon is a colossal, quad-crushing journey along the entirety of England’s only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site. Prepare for breathtaking views and brutal elevation.

Organised by the experts at Climb South West, this spectacular 105 mile point-to-point ultramarathon takes runners along the legendary South West Coast Path. Tracing the historic Jurassic Coast from Devon through to Dorset, this event is renowned for its sheer beauty, dramatic cliff faces, and a relentless series of steep ascents and descents that will push even the most seasoned 100 mile veterans to their absolute limits.

Course

Running the Jurassic Coast means running through time, but your legs will be far more focused on the topography than the geology. The South West Coast Path here is famous for its "sawtooth" profile.

  • The Terrain: Expect a gruelling mix of hard-packed dirt trails, grassy clifftops, shingle beaches, and thousands of punishing stone and wooden steps.
  • The Highlights: The route boasts some of the most iconic landmarks in the UK. You will tackle the towering height of Golden Cap (the highest point on the south coast of Great Britain), navigate the energy-sapping shingle near Chesil Beach, and face the infamous, relentless rollercoaster of steep climbs around Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.
  • The Elements: Coastal running leaves you entirely exposed. You could be battling intense summer heat reflecting off the chalk cliffs during the day, followed by freezing, howling coastal headwinds through the night.

Support and Logistics

Taking on 105 miles of technical coast path requires exceptional support, and Climb South West delivers a masterclass in race logistics.

  • Tracking & Safety: All runners are issued with a GPS tracker to ensure race HQ can monitor your progress across the remote cliff sections.
  • Checkpoints: You will be supported by a network of well-stocked indoor and outdoor aid stations offering hot food, hydration and medical support.
  • Drop Bags: To ease the burden of the 105-mile distance, runners are typically permitted a drop bag, allowing access to a fresh change of clothes, dry socks, and specific race nutrition midway through the event.

The Jurassic Extinction 105 miler is a true badge of honour. Coastal 100 milers are a completely different beast to mountain or flat trail ultras. The constant, steep undulations require a unique type of physical resilience. If you want to experience the absolute pinnacle of British coastal scenery while testing your grit against one of the toughest routes the South West has to offer, the Jurassic Extinction is the ultimate arena.
