Starting at midnight in the heart of the Lake District National Park, The Lakeland Trails 100K Ultra adds a fresh twist to your typical 100k ultramarathon. This 100km (62.1 mile) single-loop course navigates some of the region's most celebrated trails and mountain passes, offering a comprehensive test of fell running ability.
This 100KM ultra embarks from Ambleside at midnight, commencing a continuous loop through the diverse terrain of the Lake District. The course is distinguished by its inclusion of five significant mountain passes, which collectively account for its substantial elevation profile. Participants will traverse a variety of trail surfaces, from established paths to potentially rugged or uneven ground through valleys and fells.
The route is fully waymarked and supported by marshals, with GPX files available for runner navigation. This nocturnal start adds a unique dimension, requiring proficient headtorch use and enhanced awareness as runners navigate the landscape in darkness before daylight. The course showcases a range of Lakeland vistas, combining the challenge of mountain climbs with the natural beauty of the National Park.
The Lakeland Trails 100K Ultra is well organised with 8 strategically located feedstations (aid stations) along the route. The feedstations are to supplement your own food and drink supplies so it is strongly recommended you arrive at the start line with plenty of water and snacks to keep you going throughout the race.
The Lakeland Trails 100K Ultra is suited for endurance runners seeking a challenging mountain ultra with significant elevation gain, distinctive terrain, and the unique experience of a midnight start in the Lake District National Park.
