UK Ultra South Downs 100K Ultramarathon

The UK Ultra South Downs 100K Ultramarathon offers a point-to-point endurance challenge across a prominent section of the South Downs National Park. This 100km (62.1 mile) event navigates the characteristic undulations of the South Downs Way, culminating on the East Sussex coastline.

Course

This 100KM course progresses in an easterly direction, tracing a significant portion of the South Downs Way National Trail from West Dean towards the coastal town of Eastbourne. The terrain primarily consists of chalky paths, reflecting the geology of the South Downs, interspersed with farm tracks and open grassy sections.

The route is defined by a continuous sequence of ascents and descents, providing a steady challenge rather than prolonged flat sections. Key topographical features along the course include the unique dry valley of Devil's Dyke and the elevated position of Ditchling Beacon. The concluding miles present the distinct profile of the Seven Sisters cliffs and Beachy Head, preceding the descent to the finish line by the sea. Due to its exposure, particularly on ridge lines, the route can be subject to varied weather conditions.

The event ensures a marked route, utilises chip timing for participant tracking, and provides medical support throughout the course. All individuals completing the 100KM within the time limit receive a finisher's medal and post-race refreshments.

The UK Ultra South Downs 100K is designed for trail runners who seek a continuous endurance challenge over the specific undulating terrain of the South Downs National Park.
