Endurancelife Classic Quarter Ultramarathon

The Endurancelife Classic Quarter is a 44 mile point-to-point ultramarathon that takes runners along the scenic Cornish peninsula, connecting the southernmost and westernmost points of mainland England.

Named for the fact that the route covers exactly one-quarter of the compass (from south to west), this event is a staple of the UK coastal running calendar. Following the South West Coast Path, it offers a solid and deeply rewarding endurance challenge. Runners have the option to tackle the entire 44 miles solo or split the distance by entering as a relay team of two or four.

Course

The course provides a continuous, highly scenic journey along the rugged Cornish coastline.

  • Terrain and Elevation: The route consists almost entirely of the South West Coast Path. Runners will encounter a mix of hard-packed dirt trails, rocky headlands, sandy coves, and numerous sets of coastal steps. The elevation profile is rolling rather than mountainous, but the continuous, short climbs and descents from sea level to clifftop add up to a significant cumulative elevation gain over 44 miles.
  • Key Landmarks: The race starts at the iconic Lizard Point and finishes at Land's End. Along the way, the course passes through remote coastal terrain, passing traditional fishing villages, quiet bays, and historic tin mine ruins.
  • Format Options: Because 44 miles is a substantial distance, the event includes a popular relay option. Relay changeover points are integrated into the official checkpoints, allowing teams of two or four to share the mileage.

No one likes that niggling stress of navigation so thankfully the entire 44 mile course is fully waymarked by the Endurancelife team.

Why Run the Classic Quarter Ultra?
