Montane Summer Sprint South Ultra Marathon

The Montane Summer Spine Sprint South Ultra offers a distinct endurance challenge, tracing the initial segment of the renowned Pennine Way National Trail. This 46-mile (approximately 74 km) event provides a focused experience of the southern Pennines, presenting a significant test of trail running ability from Edale to Hebden Bridge.

Course

The 46 mile route commences from Edale, the traditional start of the Pennine Way, and navigates through the challenging terrain of the Peak District before entering the Yorkshire Dales. Participants will traverse iconic sections, including the demanding ascent of Jacob's Ladder and the expansive moorlands of Kinder Scout and Bleaklow. The course also passes landmarks like Top Withens, often associated with literary inspiration.

The terrain is diverse, encompassing boggy moorland, rocky paths, and established trails. It is designed to offer a condensed experience of the full Spine Race, focusing on the rigorous and often exposed conditions of the southern Pennines. The route's undulating nature ensures continuous elevation changes, contributing significantly to its challenging profile before concluding in the historic town of Hebden Bridge.

The Summer Sprint South is structured as a largely self-sufficient event. Participants are expected to carry all necessary supplies for the duration of the race.
