Experience the spectacular Southern Dales in this tough, hilly 50 mile ultra marathon. The Skipton Skedaddle is a true test of endurance, taking you from the market town of Skipton deep into the limestone landscapes of Malhamdale.
As Race 5 in the Punk Panther calendar and the second instalment of their "50 Mile Series," the Skedaddle steps up the difficulty. With over 2,300m (7,600ft) of elevation gain packed into 52.4 miles, this is significantly tougher than your average 50 miler. It’s a route that rewards grit with some of the finest scenery in Yorkshire, including Janet's Foss, Malham Cove, and the rolling Pennine bridleways.
Starting from Skipton, the route heads north into the National Park. While the shorter distances stick closer to home, the 52 milers commit to a grand tour of the Dales.
You’ll head out through Hetton to the dramatic limestone amphitheatre of Malham. From there, the route climbs higher, taking in the remote Rainscar and the beautiful hamlet of Feizor, before looping back through Airton to the finish.
Note on Navigation: While the majority of the route is taped/flagged you must be competent with a map or GPX device to navigate the remoter sections around Rainscar and Feizor.
There are six checkpoints on the 50 mile course, stocked with water, Coke, energy bars, and crisps (vegan/GF options available).
The route is challenging enough to be a serious achievement but runnable enough to make good progress. You get the iconic sights of Malham without the crowds, excellent support from the Punk Panther team, and a hot meal waiting for you back at the church hall in Skipton.
