The LAP Clockwise Ultra Marathon 2026

Embark on a circumnavigation of England's largest lake with The LAP Clockwise Ultra Marathon 2026. This 75km (47 mile) single-loop trail race is regarded as one of the must do ultras in The lake District! Offering a profound journey through stunning scenery, significant ascents, and the renowned camaraderie of the Cumbrian fells. The "Clockwise" direction is the revered, original route, allowing you to experience every iconic vista in its established glory.

The Course

The LAP Clockwise route promises a continuous visual connection to Windermere, England's largest lake, as you circumnavigate its vast perimeter. While always "within sight" of the water, don't mistake this for a flat lakeside stroll. The course is a captivating blend of footpaths, bridleways, technical trails, and minor roads, designed to showcase the diverse beauty of the Lake District.

You'll conquer iconic Lakeland fells that stand guard over the lake, including the formidable Loughrigg Fell, the picturesque Claife Heights, and the panoramic Gummer's How. The ascent up these peaks delivers rewarding, sweeping views over Windermere and the surrounding valleys, making every uphill effort worthwhile. Despite the substantial elevation, the route is renowned for being challenging but not overly technical, with no scrambling sections, making it an ideal step-up for those transitioning to longer distances or seeking a classic "mid-distance" ultra experience.

The LAP is celebrated for its friendly, "no frills" atmosphere, focusing on the raw beauty of the course and the genuine challenge.
