GB Ultras - England 50 Mile Ultramarathon

Experience the absolute best of the English countryside with the award-winning team at GB Ultras. The Ultra England 50 is a spectacular 50 mile ultramarathon that combines breathtaking scenery with the world-class event support that has made GB Ultras a household name in the endurance community.

Whether you are stepping up to the 50 mile distance for the very first time or you are a seasoned ultra-runner hunting for a fast time on highly runnable trails, this event delivers an unforgettable experience. It perfectly balances a demanding physical challenge with an incredibly welcoming, community-driven atmosphere.

Course

This North-to-South traverse of the Lake District is an absolute classic.

  • The Core Trail: Starting in the iconic outdoor hub of Keswick and finishing in the historic market town of Ulverston, the core of the 54-mile route follows some of the absolute best sections of the renowned Cumbria Way. You will be skirting the magnificent mountains, navigating deep valleys, and running alongside the famous waters of the National Park.
  • The High Ground Detour: GB Ultras are famous for pushing boundaries. While the Cumbria Way provides the backbone of the race, the organisers plan to take the route to the very top of England. Subject to final permissions and safe weather conditions on race day, the route will feature a staggering "high route" detour. If permitted, you will leave the valley trails to summit the legendary peaks of Great Gable and Scafell Pike.
  • The Terrain: Because of the potential high ground detour, you must be prepared for everything. You will transition from highly runnable, hard-packed bridleways and grassy valley tracks to severe, technical, and rocky mountain ascents.

World-Class GB Ultras Support

Running 54 miles through the Lake District requires serious logistics, and GB Ultras are famous for treating every single participant like an elite athlete.

  • Live GPS Tracking: Every runner is equipped with a live GPS tracker. This provides immense peace of mind for the race directors monitoring your safety on the high fells, and it allows your friends and family to "dot-watch" your journey in real time from home.
  • The Checkpoints: The aid stations are legendary. You will be serviced by a network of well-stocked checkpoints offering a vast array of hot and cold food, hydration, and the vital, unwavering encouragement of the GB Ultras volunteer crew.
  • Navigation: While the Cumbria Way is an established path, the potential detour over Scafell Pike requires serious mountain respect. You must carry the mandatory GPX file and a map, backed up by GB Ultras' excellent event waymarking where permitted.

The Ultra England 50 miler offers a brilliantly curated route that gives you the best of the valleys alongside the tantalising prospect of summiting England's highest peaks. Backed by the security of live tracking and an event village atmosphere that is second to none, crossing the finish line in Ulverston to earn the heavy, bespoke GB Ultras medal is a massive badge of honour.
