The Maverick Lakes 50K Ultra is a challenging ultramarathon situated within the central Lake District. This 52km course is designed to provide a significant endurance test over mountainous terrain, characteristic of the region.
The route begins in Grasmere. It includes an ascent towards Easedale Tarn, continuing to Stickle Tarn, which lies beneath peaks such as Pavey Ark and Harrison Stickle. This section involves steep, rocky ascents.
The course proceeds down the Cumbria Way into Great Langdale, following the river towards Loughrigg Tarn. The terrain varies, featuring both technical sections and established trails. A notable climb is to the top of Rydal Head and sections of the Fairfield Horseshoe, offering views of the surrounding fells before a descent back into Grasmere. The course is characterised by its significant elevation changes and varied mountain ground.
