SVP50 - 50K Ultramarathon
If you're looking for a top-tier 50k ultra marathon with a fantastic atmosphere and beautiful scenery, the SVP50 is a perfect choice. This ultra runs alongside the famous SVP100, taking on the second half of the full Stour Valley Path.
It's a brilliant and friendly race, whether you're tackling your first-ever ultra or you're a seasoned runner looking for a new challenge. It also serves as a 50k UTMB Index race.
Course
The SVP50 is a 50km (31-mile) point-to-point ultra. You'll start your adventure in the afternoon at The Granary in Sudbury and run all the way to the main finish line at Brantham Leisure Centre.
While the Stour Valley Path is known for being flat and fast, be aware that the SVP50 route covers the hiller half of the full 100k course. With around 730m of elevation gain, it's far from flat! The route is best described as "undulating," with plenty of short, sharp climbs to break up the runnable sections.
You'll be running on 95% trail, following the fully marked path through the stunning "Constable Country" landscape, made famous by the artist John Constable.
You have a generous 9.5 hour cut-off to complete the race, making it very achievable for those new to the distance. As a point-to-point race, you need to plan ahead. The most common advice is to park your car near the finish in Brantham. From there, you can get a lift or take a train (from Manningtree station, which is 1km from the finish) to the start in Sudbury.
