Escape to the remote and rugged heart of Mid Wales. The Loop Ultra is a 50K (32 mile) ultramarathon through the Cambrian Mountains, offering a wilder, quieter alternative to the busy trails of Snowdonia.
Organised by Limitless Trails and hosted at the eco-friendly Camp Plas nature retreat, this event is more than just a race, it is a weekend festival of trail running, sustainability, and outdoor living. Capped at just 100 runners, it promises an exclusive, intimate atmosphere where you can disconnect from the digital world (phone signal is limited!) and reconnect with the wild.
Starting from the banks of the River Vyrnwy, the 50km (32 mile) course takes you deep into the less-explored Cambrian Mountains. You will navigate a mix of forest tracks, ancient paths, and open hills, often skirting sections of the Glyndŵr's Way National Trail.
The route heads towards the spectacular Lake Vyrnwy, offering breathtaking views across to the Shropshire Hills and southern Snowdonia. With approximately 1,480m (4,862ft) of elevation gain, it is a significant physical challenge, but the scenery, especially the autumnal colours of October, makes every climb worth it.
With only 100 spots, you aren't just a number; you are part of a small community taking on a wild challenge. The combination of a tough 50km route with the "mini-festival" vibe of Camp Plas, complete with glamping options, fire pits, and live music, makes it the perfect end-of-season getaway.
