This is not just another ultra. The Devon & Cornwall Backyard Ultra is a race with a powerful purpose. While it follows the classic "last one standing" format, every penny of the proceeds goes directly to supporting the vital work of the charity Bowel Cancer West.

Held in the beautiful, private grounds of Newnham Park in Plymouth, this is your chance to push your limits, smash your personal bests, and do a huge amount of good while you're at it.

Backyard Ultra Rules

The rules are as simple as they are brutal.

• The Loop: You must run a 4.167-mile (6.7km) loop.
• The Hour: You have one hour to complete it.
• The Bell: The bell rings on the hour, every hour. Be in the starting corral, or you're out.

This repeats. And repeats. And repeats. The race doesn't end until every runner has given up, except for one. The "winner" is the last person standing, but this event is famous for its supportive atmosphere, where runners smash their distance PBs, be it their first marathon, first 100k, or first 100-miler.

Course

Don't let the beautiful scenery of Newnham Park fool you. This is a challenging trail loop. The course includes a notoriously steep hill that will become your best friend and your worst enemy, a relentless climb that "slowly grinds you down" loop after loop.

The Devon & Cornwall Backyard Ultra is known for its incredible community atmosphere and your entry fee includes camping for you and your support crew from Friday, so you can set up your base camp right near the start line. You'll also have full medical cover, toilets and all the support you'd expect.
