Are you ready to link two of Scotland’s most iconic trails in one continuous push? By Way of the Glen isn't just an ultramarathon, it’s a 170 mile adventure through the very heart of the Highlands, taking you from the bustle of Glasgow to the capital of the Highlands, Inverness.
Organised by the team at Rocket Events (Run Ya Rocket), this is a serious undertaking for experienced ultrarunners who look at the West Highland Way and think, "What if I just kept going?"
This 170 mile ultra marathon offers a unique proposition: conquering two legendary long-distance paths back-to-back.
Your journey begins at the classic Milngavie Train Station start line. First, you must tackle the full 96 miles of the West Highland Way. You’ll traverse the shores of Loch Lomond, cross the vast Rannoch Moor, and climb the Devil's Staircase.
For most, reaching Fort William is the finish line. For you, it’s just the transition.
After a short link section on tarmac, you join the Great Glen Way at Neptune’s Staircase. From here, you have another 73 miles to go, heading north-east along the major fault line that divides the Highlands. You’ll run alongside Loch Lochy, Loch Oich, and the mighty Loch Ness, before the final push into Inverness.
Rocket Events are known for their "no-nonsense" approach. This is not a race for beginners. Entrants are vetted and must have completed races of at least 70 miles previously.
While the route is waymarked (following the official National Trail markers), self-sufficiency is key. You will need to manage your sleep strategy, nutrition, and the inevitable mental lows that come with running for two days straight. Support crews are permitted at specific checkpoints, but there are remote sections where you are on your own with the Scottish elements.
Race details, including mandatory kit lists and checkpoint locations, can vary year on year. Always check the official race website for the latest info, including registration details.
