The Ring O' Fire 135 mile ultramarathon is an endurance trail running event that circumnavigates the entire coastline of Anglesey, North Wales. This continuous loop follows the official Anglesey Coastal Path, offering a demanding challenge over diverse coastal terrain within a 55 hour time limit.
The 135 mile route forms a single loop around the island of Anglesey. Beginning and concluding in Holyhead, the course predominantly follows the designated Anglesey Coastal Path. The terrain is highly varied, reflecting the diverse coastal landscape of North Wales. Participants will encounter sections of sandy beaches, rocky coves, exposed clifftops, disused railway lines, and paths through small villages and woodlands.
The continuous nature of the coastal path involves frequent undulations, which accumulate significant elevation gain over the full distance. Runners must contend with varied underfoot conditions and potential exposure to coastal weather elements, including wind and rain, which can impact progress. Landmarks include Holyhead Mountain, the highest point on Anglesey, and numerous points of historical and natural interest along the coastline. Some sections of the route may be influenced by tidal conditions, requiring careful timing or alternative paths.
The Ring O' Fire operates as a semi-supported race. Participants are required to carry a mandatory kit. Support is provided at designated checkpoints along the route (every 15 to 20 miles), which offer essential provisions and medical assistance.
For detailed entry requirements, specific route information, checkpoint locations, and the complete mandatory kit list, participants should refer to the official race website.
