Wild Horse South Wales 200 Ultramarathon

The Wild Horse South Wales 200 Ultramarathon is a formidable point-to-point endurance race that traverses 200 miles across the diverse landscapes of South Wales. This continuous event is designed to test participants' physical and mental limits, guiding them from the historic borderlands to the rugged coastline over five days.

Course

The 200-mile route commences from Chepstow, near the English border, and charts a course westward, culminating at the distinctive Worm's Head on the Gower Peninsula. The journey integrates significant sections of several celebrated long-distance trails. Participants will navigate parts of Offa's Dyke Path, venture through the challenging Black Mountains and across the Brecon Beacons National Park via The Beacons Way, connect with sections of the Heart of Wales Line Trail, and conclude along the dramatic Wales Coast Path.

The terrain is highly varied, transitioning from the initial undulations of the Wye Valley to the substantial climbs and rocky paths of the mountains, eventually giving way to the unique coastal environment of the Gower. Runners will encounter diverse underfoot conditions and significant elevation changes, continuously immersing themselves in the varied geological and natural beauty of South Wales. Notable landmarks include ancient castles, rolling valleys, vast reservoirs, and prominent mountain peaks like Waun Fach, Pen Allt-Mawr, and Table Mountain.

Support and Crews

The Wild Horse South Wales 200 operates as a non-stop, semi-supported event. While runners may arrange their own personal crew support, it is also feasible to undertake the race un-crewed. Participants are required to carry a comprehensive mandatory kit for safety due to the distance, duration, and the remote nature of certain sections.

Live GPS tracking is provided for all participants, enabling continuous monitoring by race organisers for safety and allowing remote progress tracking by supporters.

The Wild Horse South Wales 200 Ultramarathon is suited for highly experienced ultra-runners seeking a multi-day, continuous challenge over a substantial distance and significant elevation. It demands strong navigational skills, robust self-sufficiency, and advanced mental fortitude for sustained effort across the diverse and often rugged landscapes of South Wales.

For detailed entry requirements, specific route information, checkpoint details, and the complete mandatory kit list, participants should refer to the official race website.
