Thames Ring 150 Mile Ultramarathon

Think a flat route means an easy race? Think again. The Thames Ring 150 mile ultra marathon is a relentless, psychological and physical test of endurance set along the rural waterways of Southern and Central England.

Organised by Challenge Running, the Thames Ring 150 is a brilliant new addition to the legendary Thames Ring Series. Designed for runners who want to experience the magic (and the madness) of the iconic Thames Ring 250 miler without committing to the full four-day undertaking, this 150 mile option (which actually clocks in closer to 158 miles) provides a monumental challenge in its own right.

Course

Unlike the full 250-mile loop, the TR150 is a point-to-point race. You will start alongside the 250 mile runners at the Morrell Rooms in Streatley-on-Thames.

From there, the route heads east along the scenic River Thames before turning north to follow the Grand Union Canal. The terrain is almost entirely flat, consisting of riverside paths and canal towpaths. However, the lack of elevation change means your legs are subjected to constant, repetitive motion, making this a true test of muscular endurance and mental grit.

Your journey concludes at Nether Heyford Village Hall in Northamptonshire, which serves as Checkpoint 6 for the full 250 route and the finish line for your epic 150 mile ultra.

Challenge Running events are famous for their strict adherence to the ethos of self-sufficiency.

  • No Pacers: You cannot use pacers or buddy runners at any point during the race.
  • Strict Crewing Rules: Your friends and family are welcome to support you, but only at designated checkpoints. Receiving outside assistance (food, drink, or gear) anywhere else on the course will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Drop Bags: To help you survive the distance, you are permitted one 20kg drop bag. The incredible volunteer team will transport this bag to each checkpoint along the route, allowing you to access fresh socks, spare batteries, and your favourite snacks.
