Peak District Challenge 100 Mile Ultra Marathon

Take on the ultimate endurance test in one of the UK’s most beloved national parks. The Peak District Challenge 100 Mile Ultramarathon demands both relentless physical stamina and razor-sharp mountain navigation, challenging you to complete a massive 100 mile circuit in under 24 hours.

Starting and finishing in the picturesque Peak District village of Hathersage, this premier 100 mile event is the pinnacle of the wider Peak District Challenge weekend. It is designed for experienced ultramarathon runners and strong endurance walkers who are ready to push their limits through the night and into the rugged daylight.

The Challenge: 100 Miles, 24 Hours

This is a race against the clock as much as it is against the terrain. Your journey begins at 9:00 pm on Friday evening. From the moment you cross the start line, the clock is ticking. You have exactly 24 hours to navigate the route and return to Hathersage before the 9:00 pm cut-off on Saturday.

Self-Navigation

This is not a heavily taped, heavily marshalled "follow the flags" race. The 100-mile ultra is an unmarked, fully self-navigated challenge.

  • You will be provided with printed route guides and GPX files to assist with navigation via your watch or GPS device.
  • While shorter distances at this event offer guided groups, the 100 mile and Gold (100km) challengers must be entirely self-sufficient in their navigation from start to finish.

Safety and Support

While the route is unmarked, you are exceptionally well looked after by the event team.

  • Tracking: Every team or solo runner is equipped with a GPS tracker, providing continuous monitoring by race HQ.
  • Checkpoints: You will encounter friendly, fully stocked checkpoints roughly every 2 to 3 hours, offering water, drinks, and snacks.
  • Drop Bags: The logistical burden is eased with a comprehensive bag care system, allowing 100 mile runners to access drop bags at strategic points along the route.
  • Safety: The event is supervised by fully qualified, professional Mountain Leaders to ensure your safety on the hills.

Charity Ethos

One of the standout features of the Peak District Challenge is its transparent pricing and fair charity model. The entry fee for the 100 Miles in 24 Hours challenge is £99, which reflects the true, professional cost of hosting the event.

You are highly encouraged to use your run to fundraise for a charity of your choice, but there are absolutely no hidden deductions. Your charity will receive 100% of your sponsorship, and they will not be charged a fee for your participation.
