A true test of mountain endurance and navigation. The Gold Ultra is the flagship 100km event of the Peak District Challenge weekend, packing in 2,900 metres of ascent across the very best terrain the national park has to offer.
Starting in the village of Hathersage, this demanding 100km (62 mile) loop is designed for fit, experienced trail runners and fast trekkers. Because the race starts under the cover of darkness, it requires not only immense physical stamina but also total confidence in your night navigation skills.
The course offers a spectacular showcase of the Peak District's contrasting landscapes. Consisting of trails, grassy footpaths, and less than 15% tarmac, the terrain is varied and consistently undulating.
Your journey begins at 9:00 pm on Friday night. Leaving Hathersage, you will follow the River Derwent towards Ladybower Reservoir before the climbing truly begins.
You have exactly 24 hours to complete the 100km course, meaning you must maintain an average pace of over 4 km/h (including stops).
Earning your 100km finish on this breathtaking course is a massive achievement that requires grit, fitness, and exceptional map-reading skills.
