Experience the majesty of the Highlands on foot with the Great Glen Ultra (GG73). This 72 mile (115km) coast-to-coast challenge takes you from the foot of Ben Nevis in the west to the capital of the Highlands in the east, following the stunning Great Glen Way.
Organised by the passionate team at Rocket Events (Run Ya Rocket), this is a "proper" Scottish ultra. It combines breath taking scenery with a deceptively tough route, demanding both physical endurance and mental grit as you race against the 22 hour cut-off.
The GG73 (Great Glen Ultra Marathon) is a journey through the geological fault line that divides the Scottish Highlands. Starting at 1:00am in Corpach, near Fort William, you will run through the short summer night, watching the sunrise over the lochs before tackling the hills of the day.
The 72 mile (115km) route follows the official Great Glen Way, offering a diverse mix of terrain. You’ll begin on flat canal towpaths and forestry tracks along the shores of Loch Lochy and Loch Oich. However, don't be fooled by the gentle start. After Fort Augustus, the "High Route" beckons. This section introduces significant elevation, climbing high above Loch Ness to offer spectacular panoramic views, and a serious test for your legs, before the final push into Inverness.
This is a bucket-list ultra for anyone who loves the Scottish outdoors. The point-to-point format gives it a real sense of adventure, and the 1:00 am start adds a unique element of challenge and magic to the experience. It’s an unsupported race designed for solo runners, but with six well-stocked checkpoints and a friendly marshal team, you'll never feel truly alone.
This is a tough event requiring previous ultra experience (typically 35-40+ miles). Mandatory kit lists and specific start details are subject to change, so always check the official race website for the latest info and registration details.
