The LAP Anticlockwise Ultra Marathon 2026

Challenge yourself from a new angle with The LAP Anticlockwise Ultra Marathon 2026. This 75km (47-mile) continuous loop around Windermere, England's largest lake, offers a distinctive test of endurance for those seeking a fresh perspective on the classic Lakeland challenge. Running the course in reverse presents its own unique strategic demands, pushing you to adapt and conquer familiar terrain in a novel way.

The Course

While still keeping the majestic Windermere on your right for the entire loop, the Anticlockwise direction fundamentally changes the character of the race. The most significant difference runners often note is that the larger, more sustained climbs, particularly those around the Ambleside area, are encountered after the halfway point. This means you'll be tackling significant ascents when your legs are already feeling the miles, demanding a different kind of mental and physical fortitude compared to the Clockwise route.

The route itself is a captivating blend of well-established footpaths, rugged bridleways, winding trails, and occasional stretches of quiet minor road. You'll still soak in continuous, breath taking views of Windermere from every conceivable angle, traversing ancient woodlands, open fells, and picturesque landscapes. Despite the substantial elevation, The LAP maintains its reputation as a "proper Lakeland ultra" that is challenging yet accessible, free from technical scrambling sections, making it an excellent choice for runners looking to truly experience the Lake District's iconic beauty.
