Welcome to The Turbine Backyard Ultra, an event that isn't about how fast you can run, but how long you can keep going. Forget PBs and split times, this is a pure test of endurance, grit, and perhaps a little bit of glorious stubbornness. Organised by the eco-conscious team at Greener Miles Running, this is a race that will show you what you're truly made of.

The format is beautifully simple: can you run a 4.1-mile loop every hour, on the hour?

Last One Standing

This is a "Backyard Ultra," a last-person-standing event that's taking the ultra-running world by storm.

• The Bell Rings: At 10 am, the starting bell will ring, and you'll head out to complete the loop.
• Back on the Hour: You must be back in the starting corral before the bell rings again at 11 am, ready to go again.
• No Exceptions: If you're not in the corral when the bell goes, you're out. No excuses, no loo breaks, no "just one more minute."
• The Winner: This continues hour after hour, day and (most likely) night, until only one runner is left. Everyone else gets a "DNF" (Did Not Finish) – and a famous wooden spoon to prove it!

It's a mental game as much as a physical one. Pacing is everything. Go out too fast, and you'll have ages to wait in the cold. Go too slow, and you'll be rushing to refuel before the bell traps you.

Course

You'll be running at the lovely West Shields Farm in Satley. Don't expect a flat track; this course has character.

• Terrain: The loop is a proper mix of farmland, single-track trail, and woodland dirt tracks.
• Elevation: You'll climb around 121m (400ft) on every single loop. It's more than enough to keep your legs interested, but perfectly doable within the hour.
• Private Land: Please note that the route is on private land, so there are strictly no recces allowed before race day. You'll all see it for the first time together!
