Discover the "Beast in the East." The Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Ultra Marathon (RIDUM) is an exhilarating 50km (30 mile) challenge that traces the high ground of the Rhymney Valley, just a stone's throw from Cardiff.
The RIDUM is the season closer for the Pegasus Slam. It offers a surprising amount of elevation and wilderness for a race so close to the Welsh capital. If you want to finish your summer season with big views, ancient ridgeways, and a tough but rewarding circular route, this is the one.
Starting and finishing at Parc Penallta (dominated by the famous 'Sultan the Pit Pony' earth sculpture), the course follows the historic Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk.
This is a circular route that encircles the river basin, keeping you high on the skyline for much of the day. You will traverse a mix of woodland trails, country lanes, and open commons, racking up approximately 1,340m (4,402ft) of elevation gain.
The High Point: The undisputed challenge of the day is Mynydd Machen. Rising to 1,188ft between Risca and Machen, it offers commanding views over the Bristol Channel and towards the Brecon Beacons. And yes, you go right over the top!
As with all Pegasus Ultra Running events, The RIDUM is built on inclusivity. There are no cut-off times. Whether you are racing to beat the course record or hiking to enjoy the September sunshine, the finish line stays open until you cross it. The team is dedicated to helping every runner complete their journey, removing the stress of the clock so you can focus on the trail.
