RunThrough Fox 62K Ultra Marathon
If you are looking for a race that encapsulates the quintessential British countryside, The Fox 62K Ultra is it.
This 62km circular route follows "The Fox Way," a lesser-known but beautiful long-distance path that circumnavigates the town of Guildford. Starting and finishing in Godalming, this is a race of variety. One minute you are running along the serene River Wey Navigation, the next you are climbing through the ancient woodlands of the Surrey Hills or skirting the edge of Worplesdon Golf Course.
RunThrough has built a reputation for accessible, well-marked events, and The Fox is no exception. While 62km is a serious distance, the rolling nature of the course (it avoids the absolute biggest peaks of the North Downs but still packs a punch) makes it a very runnable ultra. It’s perfect for seasoned runners chasing a fast time or those stepping up from a marathon for the first time.
Course
The race begins at 08:00 from Burys Field in Godalming. The route is a giant loop, meaning you don't have to worry about point-to-point logistics, you finish exactly where you started.
You’ll tackle:
- The River Wey: Flat, fast running along historic towpaths.
- The Woods: Bluebell-filled woodlands (in May) including the chantries and Clandon Park.
- The Hills: While it’s not a mountain race, it is undulating. You’ll have plenty of short, sharp climbs to test the legs, particularly in the second half as you loop back towards Godalming.
Navigation One of the biggest selling points of RunThrough Trails events is the marking. The course is fully flagged, meaning you can focus on your running rather than staring at a map. However, carrying the GPX on your watch/phone is still mandatory (and just good sense!).
