If you've ever dreamt of running in the Scottish Highlands, the Ultra X Scotland 50K is one of the most spectacular ways to do it. This is a point-to-point 50km ultra marathon that takes you along the shores of the world's most famous loch, Loch Ness.
This event is the final day of the full 110km race, meaning you join the course on the Sunday and get to share the trails with the runners completing their epic circumnavigation. The atmosphere is fantastic, combining the fresh excitement of the 50K runners with the grit of those on their final leg.
The ultra is a point-to-point route, starting at the southern end of the loch in Fort Augustus and running all the way to the finish line on the beach at Dores.
This is a hilly and challenging 50K, with over 1,300m of ascent, but it rewards you with some of the most stunning views in Scotland. The route follows the magnificent South Loch Ness Trail and the Trail of the 7 Lochs. You'll climb through ancient woodlands, pass the stunning Falls of Foyers, and run along high single tracks that offer breath taking vistas over the water (keep an eye out for Nessie!).
This is a fantastic choice for a first-time 50K, or for any seasoned runner looking for a truly epic and beautiful Scottish ultra. For full race details, please visit the official Ultra X website.
