What is an ultramarathon?

An ultramarathon is any running event that exceeds the traditional marathon distance of 26.2 miles (42.195 kilometres). Common formats include 50k, 100k, 50 miles, 100 miles, and multi-day endurance events.

How can I search for ultra marathons in my area?

GB Ultra Runner allows you to filter events by location, distance category, elevation and organiser. You can browse events by country, including ultramarathons in Scotland, England and Wales, or use the ultramarathon map to find races near you.

How often are ultra marathons added or updated?

I aim to keep the event listings fresh by updating the site frequently, usually on a weekly basis. This includes adding new races, updating details and removing any cancelled or outdated ultras.

Can I recommend or add a race to your site?

Yes, definitely! If you’re a race organiser or know of an ultra that’s not on the list, you’re welcome to submit it. I manually review every submission to ensure it meets the criteria and provides accurate information. Click here for details on how to list your ultra event.

Do I have to pay to use the website?

Nope, this is a passion project and my aim is to create a super user-friendly resource for all things ultra running …free of charge!

What does the 'elevation' filter refer to?

This filter helps you choose events based on total elevation gain. Some races follow flatter terrain, while others involve steep mountain climbs. I categorise events so you can find ones that match your training and experience level.

I'm new to ultra running, any tips?

Training for an ultra requires gradual progression, good kit choices and smart fuelling. While I don’t offer coaching, I am in the process of putting together some ultramarathon training plans to help new commers get started. Over the coming months I'll also be posting some running gear reviews so keep and eye out for that too.
